Asbestos - on farm disposal (April 06)
It will be illegal for farmer to dispose of Hazardous Waste generated on their own farm other than at a waste disposal site from the first of September 2006. This includes Asbestos. Until this date a farmer can dispose of this waste on their own farms. Although the Environment Agency would like you to dispose of it at a proper site now.

Smoking at Work Continued (March 06)
The politicians have bitten the bullet and smoking in ALL public enclosed spaces and businesses will be illegal. These regulations will be in force in summer 2007.


Smoking at Work (November 05)
The consultation period for the new smoking at work regulations mentioned in the news bulletin below has expired. There were 65000 responses to the section dealing with smoking. 60000 were against the exemptions to the regulation and about 5000 in favour, so the 5000 won, now there is democracy in action. So premises that are licensed and do not serve food, (the definition of food is yet to be invented) can allow their patrons to smoke and all other workplaces cannot. These regulations will be in force earlier than planned in summer 2007.

Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 August 05
As you will know, the regulations to implement the 2003 EU noise directive - 2003/10/EC - have now been laid before Parliament. The new Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 are expected to come into force on 6 April 2006, with a two year transitional period for the music and entertainment industry until 6 April 2008. see them here. One of the main changes is that the action levels are reduced by 5 dba, because of the way decibels are calculated this is actually a major reduction in perceived noise levels. You have been warned.


Smoking at Work August/September 05
This issue will affect all businesses in the U.K. The government propose the banning of tobacco smoking in all work places by the end of 2007. There is a consultation document in circulation at the moment. Anybody is free to respond to this document as a business or private individual, all comments need to be in by the 5th September 2005. Working at Height - New Regulations April 05
The law has recently changed, a new set of regulations came into effect on the 6th April 2005. They regulate the steps that should be taken before and during work at height is taking place. If you are running a well run business these regulations should hold little new.
