Stress at Work
The
Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E.) scientists tell us
that stress, depression and anxiety account for 33% of all working days
lost in
the U.K. workplace. To add to this are the days off due to stress but
when
other reasons are given, migraine, bad back etc. etc. A stressed
workforce will
vote with their feet and staff turnover will be high.
There
are many steps that can be taken to reduce this number
of lost days by reducing the levels of stress and stress related
illness in
your workforce. The document “The
Management Standards” (click on the
link) gives an indication of the standards that can be
achieved, although
not all standards can be achieved by all businesses.
CMJ
Consultants can help you to attain standards set out in
this document.
Step1
Both
management and staff
should be committed to this
programme.
Step 2
An analysis of your sickness records should be carried out,
this is to establish what level of stress related illness you have
before this
programme is started. A further analysis should be carried out maybe 6
months
after this programme has finished.
Step3
A
questionnaire will be sent
to all workers at their home address.
Replies will be sent direct to CMJ Consultants and will be 100%
anonymous. This
will be a H.S.E. approved questionnaire.
Step4
These
replies will be
analysed using a special analysis tool
to see where the source of any problem might lie.
Step5
Focus
groups will be held,
these are small meetings with a
representative section of all parts of your workforce. These groups let
your
staff have their say without management being present.
Step6
CMJ
Consultants will produce
an action plan designed to
bring your staff “on board” by giving them an
element of control over their
working lives, give them a sense of direction and highlight problems.
This has
been shown to reduce stress levels amongst your workers.
This
programme could easily be cost effective, advertising
for new staff is both expensive and time consuming. |
